In this episode we explore spreading music in underserved communities, emphasizing local context, collaboration, and cultural sensitivity. The Delia Arts Foundation's projects in Gaza highlight music's role in humanitarian aid and war, providing resources for young musicians in challenging regions.
In this episode of JM International’s ‘The Power of Music’, we speak about working with music and youth in Gaza and other communities at risk. We discuss the importance of understanding a local context and working with local partners and artists, how to decide when to adapt to the local context and when to stand up for something you feel is important, and how the differences in music scales can make us aware of our cultural insensitivities. As the Delia Arts Foundation runs multiple projects in Gaza, we talk about the shift to providing humanitarian aid, the decisions that have to be made, and about the role of music in times of war, and – of course – the power of music. The Delia Arts Foundation provides the tools, infrastructure, and resources to make dreams a reality for talented young musicians, particularly in regions where opportunities to become professional musicians are scarce.
